Annotated Bibliography Bauer, K. W., Berge, J. M., Larson, N., Neumark-Sztainer, D. (2011). Are Parents of Young Children Practicing Healthy Nutrition and Physical Activity Behaviors? Pediatrics, 127(5), 881-887. doi: 10.1542/peds.1010-3218. The authors of this article present an investigation on the changes in health behaviors during parenthood. The study examines health behaviors, such as nutrition and physical activity, of both parents and young adults without children. Based on the findings, the authors concluded that there were some negative differences among parents in comparison to young adults without children. For example, mothers were found to intake more sugar in their diet and also had a higher BMI mean than women†¦show more content†¦This information helps to emphasize the idea that practicing healthy behaviors will positively help their children’s behavioral and cognitive functioning. Benton, D. (2004). Role of Parents in the Determination of the Food Preferences of Children and the Development of Obesity. International Journal of Obesity, 28. 858-869. doi: 10.1038/sj.ijo.0802532. This article investigates the key role parents play in how children determine their food preferences as well as the potential onset of obesity. The studies suggest that there is a genetically determined predisposition on the food choices made by children. Parents play a key role in modifying these predispositions to encourage healthy choices and behaviors. For example, obesity can be predisposed by genetics. However, parents can shape an environment for their children to avoid fostering the gene for obesity in their children and lead them to a healthier lifestyle. This article was useful to my product in emphasizing the key role parents play in the health of their children. I used the findings of this article to give advice to parents on how they should shape their child’s eating behaviors. Birch, L. L., Daniels, S. R., Dennison, B. A., Gidding, S. S., Gilman, M.
